Protect Your Insulation with Loft Boarding

Loft insulation works due to the air that is trapped inside, and if you compress it, the air gets squeezed out, making it much less effective.

At Evergreen Insulation Services Ltd we have the solution. With our specialist raised loft flooring, you can still have the best of both worlds.

We can transform your loft space into a convenient storage area that is safe and practical, without compromising the efficiency of your insulation. We use the highest quality timber and boards to construct a raised floor that sits comfortably over your insulation, thus maintaining maximum efficiency and maximum savings. Checkatrade Review - Ipswich

I've just used Evergreen again for the second time - both times to improve loft insulation, boarding, hatch and ladder. David is really knowledgeable and enthusiastic, and quickly came out to give a quote (despite being very busy!), and managed to fit the work in in a very reasonable time frame too.

Checkatrade Review - Norfolk

This is a good company run by the enthusiatic David. We had cavity wall insulation fitted in an old extension part of the house. David's service and work are thorough. He ensured work was completed to a high standard in a clean and tidy manner. I would highly recommend this company.

Frequently asked loft boarding questions...

Some homeowners do take the DIY approach and install loft boarding themselves however hiring a professional is often safer. Experienced fitters ensure boards are fitted securely, evenly, and do not overload the loft structure. Incorrect installation can lead to damaged insulation, broken joists, or even a loft collapse. If you are unsure about your loft’s structural capacity, a survey by a professional loft boarding company is recommended.

The weight capacity depends on your loft joists. Standard residential loft joists can typically hold about 20–30 kg per square meter if evenly distributed. Stronger reinforced joists can hold more, but it’s crucial not to overload the space. Professionals can assess your loft and recommend safe boarding options to prevent structural damage.

Generally, loft boarding does not require planning permission because it is considered an internal improvement rather than a structural alteration. However, if you plan to convert the loft into a living space with windows or a dormer, planning permission may be required. Always check with your local council if you are unsure.

Little maintenance is needed however we do recommend keeping walk ways clear for saftey as well as having weight evenly distributed across the boarding. It's also best to ensure your loft is well ventilated to prevent damp building up and rotting the wood work.

Loft boarding is the process of installing sturdy boards across your loft floor to create a safe, flat surface. It allows you to use your loft for storage without damaging insulation or wiring. Benefits include extra storage space, easier access to stored items, and safer movement in the loft. Proper loft boarding can also help with home organisation and may even add value to your property.
